So I was under the impression that some flame angelfishes were reef-safe and others weren't that it would be a hit or miss if you bought one. But now that I posted a thread searching for a reef-safe flame angel, everyone is saying that there aren't any reef-safe flame angels. So now I am really confused. Can someone clear this up for me so I can decide whether to buy one or not?

They're no such thing as a reef safe Flame Angel. They mayn't eat any of your coral now or a week from now or even a month from now but there is a good chance that they will find something interesting in your tank and pick on it, most likely Zoa's. So if you can live with the chance they may pick on some corals or clams then it's worth the risk.

there is no angel that is a 100% reef safe, some might never bother anything but then 2 months or more later will start, i think you you keep them properly feed you have a better chance

hey

Questionmarc has a really nice flame angel in his tank, he has zoos,sps,lps,clams.. ans he says it has not bother any corals. He motivated me to get one. One thing I've learn in this hobby is that what may work for some may not work for others. What the hell give it a try, Just watch him.

The most reef safe angels are considered to be the bellus angels and the watanbe angels.

Most of the flame angels I know that have been put into reef tanks have caused problems.

agreed on everyone's opinion..... but I have a coral beauty for over a year and so far so good, I haven't seen him nipping at anything (other than my pesky damsel). It is certainly hit or miss

I had a beautiful Potter's Angel in my reef tank for almost a year. He never picked on anything. I have lots of zoos, 4 clams, lots of LPS, and some SPS. He was a model fish until I introduced a Chevron Tang, and he got spooked and jumped. RIP. Good luck.

I had a flame in multiple reef tanks, and they never messed with my corals. However they do pick on rocks a bit and may irritate some corals, but they dont seem to pose any real threat, from my experience

Over the years, I have kept various flame, coral beauty, and cherub angels. None has ever given me a problem with my corals or zoo's...although I wouldn't care if they went after the zoo's as they are everywhere...but, that said, there are so many warnings out there that I would take them very seriously. The one fish that I ever had that damaged corals was a bicolor blenny...many years ago...liked to chomp on brain corals...then one day the brain coral ate him....problem solved.
