i had this shore clingfish, got it from a pet shop that didnt know much about it.. i asked if it was poisonous hence i know of several cat fish that are. the sales person said hes not sure if hes reef safe but hes def. too small to be toxic.. so i brought the lil guy.. figured hed chill and eat algae.

guess what 10 days later he died in my nano. he was toxic. he killed all my fish except for 2 clown fish... 2 of my frogspawns r in the ER.... and 1 of my torches died. as well as my watermelon zoos.... it was a sad day.

anyways i just wanted to give you guys a heads up .. the lil shore cling fish looks like a fresh water plecho.

he looked just like this but was all black... http://fishbase.fishinfo.cn/images/thumbnails/jpg/tn_Lelep_u7.jpg

stay far away from theses lil guys... my lil brother actually picked him up with his finger tips to throw him out. and guess what his fingers started chapping asap.... so theres def. toxins coming outta him...

This is an unfortunate but perfect example of "Research Before You Buy". The moment the salesperson said he didn't know for sure, I would have run for a fish book or better yet...the hills. :bunny: A fish not being "reef-safe" is a common mistake, but toxic  Don't play games with your health...it's only a hobby for most of us.

It killed fish and corals and you let your lil' brother pick it up with bare hands??? How are his fingers now? Better to be cautious when not knowing for sure. Many many many things are toxic in this hobby. To err on the side of caution is better than a trip to the ER.

Sorry to hear of your losses. Hoping all those that are on the injured list make a healthy comeback.

Just a heads up, the ocean is a dangerous, DANGEROUS place. Many of the super common animals you see in stores (fish and corals) contain some of the most poisonous substances known to man. Many of the fish can sting you via their spines and many of the corals contain potent biotoxins. I personally would be very weary of buying anything you haven't researched well beforehand, for yours and its benefit.

If your LFS got in some really cool fish don't worry it will be there after you research it and if not they can get another one.

Oh yeah becareful of getting stung by toxic stuff, especially in the ocean cause on top of the toxins, if they don't kill you, you can also pick up flesh eating bacteria.
