Does anyone have an orange spotted goby with a shrimp? I have a
40BR and 4 fish now (1 pair of clowns, a lawnmower blenny and a
royal gramma). The sand bed is maybe 1 1/2 inches. Would the
goby + shrimp get along with the others and be happy with the
sand bed? Is it fun to watch the symbiotic relationship of the
two?

Dont mean to thread-jack but I noticed a deep red shrimp with a white stripe down the middle of it's back and a few white spots,it was about half an inch,it was built like a pistol and had a claw that was much bigger then the other, I have no idea what it's eating since the only food I put in there is some nori every few days since the tang only eats that and algae:grumpy:. Anyway I only saw him for a bit hanging on my hermit's shell and then he disappeared but can someone try to ID for me and tell me if he's safe. And if he will form a relationship with a goby?

From WetWebMedia: Pistol Shrimp are the predominant crustaceans on the world's reefs... and so you are likely to run into them... they eat most all types of foods... and if kept fed will often leave other crustaceans and mollusks alone.

We'd need a better description or a photo to identify the shrimp. Not all pistol shrimp form a symbiotic relationship with gobies.

The goby and shrimp will probably work for you just fine. In a 40 breeder, your bio load sounds about right. They will not have a hard time with the fishes that are in your tank already.

I have a Randol's pistol shrimp and a Randol's goby. They are quite interesting to watch. Very easy to pair up. They find each other. My 2 cents would be to put a hand full of rubbles at a corner that is in your view, it is likely the shrimp will build a burrow there and the goby will come. From the front it will look like an ant farm.

beware that certain species of pistol shrimp will NEVER hook up with a watch man goby. The tiger and Randol's are sure bets, other ones may or may not be.

Good luck.
