When i check the tank in the morning, i started noticing a small ditch in the bottom of the sand bed. I figured the Potter Angel was the one making the ditch since i usually catch it resting in the ditch. After time, the ditch was just the Angels chilling spot.
Now, I recently received a decent sized Female 2 1/2" Maroon Clownfish and started noticing a huge ditch in the sand.
Now this evening, i decided to watch the fish. I kept trying to figure out:scratch: what was making the huge ditch below a piece of live rock, then noticed the maroon clownfish shifting the sand aside by shaking its tail. Is this a normal manner for a maroon clownfish?
Probably trying to get situated in the tank?

Any Suggestions?

Yes very common, the one I had did it around her "territory",just something they do.

edit:she should eventually stop if she gets it the way she likes it and nothing changes it,mine just did it continually because I moved it while scraping algae all the time.

i have a rbta on a piece of rock about 9"x4" i had the rock standing on one end with the anemoneon top. My wsm decided she wants the rock and anemone sideways so she rams the rock and fliips it sideways. every time i stand up the rock she flips it by the next morning. she also moves all the sand away from it

I was planning on getting an bubble tip anemone or a frogspawn to keep her company. Still thinking about it. Maybe that would make here feel more comfortable.

Others have been saying Maroon Clowns mark there territory that way.
As of now, all the fish (2 types of Damsels, Potter Angel, Tomato Clown, & Maroon Clown) are doing well.

It's just something they do,don't worry, she doesn't need a host to feel at home and the maroons are the ones known to do this but I have seen false percs do it.

Mine does the same thing.. Of course it never did this when I had my RBTA...
So I bought a fake anemone... Dropped it in the tank earlier this week...
I'm hoping it will fool my clownfish, and the sand stirring will stop...

Well I guess lots of people notice this. I was planning on moving one of my large live rock pieces out of the tank to make it feel more open. I figured she'd just go to the other side of the tank and do the same thing. Just a thought.
Also, My tomato clown isnt as tough now that the maroon clown is there.

I figured it wasnt the best idea but they seem to chill with one another which was pretty weird to me. Its like they know they have to live with one another so thee is a compromise. Like Marriage. heheheheh.

This is something most clowns do. With or without an anemonie. By the way, when I added the RBTA is when the GS started the darn fanning. I removed the RBTA, and she continued the undesirable behaviour. I removed the GS, then the clarki picked up where the GS left off. Both clowns are now in the fowlr, and they are both fanning the sand in the fowlr. In the fowlr it doesn't bother me as much since there are no corals that can be buried. So now they're happy, corals are happy, and I'm happy...:groupflip

DAMN!! Don't get me started on the Maroon Clown. My 4", 6 yr old Maroon Clown has cost me easily over $400 over the years and countless hrs of rearranging my tank. She/he is not aggressive toward fish, but is so aggressive when hosting an anemone or softie that she eventually kills it. Her latest victim, a finger leather I picked up at Aquatic Express! I even had Alex get me a carpet anemone for it, & you know it. It completely ignores it. It prefers to knock over baseball size pieces of rock to entertain itself & drive me nuts. Beautiful, robust fish. But if I could catch it, it'd be gone.
