Snowflake Eel

Hows there temperment in the aquarium with fish.
Do they live well with Blue Tangs, and Chromis?
Just curious.

your probably gonna notice those chromis missing but wont mess with fish it cant swallow and pretty layed back for the most part. Make sure ur tank is seal up though or it will get out

They live great with chromis......until they eat them.

just make sure the eel is well fed. they're definitely destroy your cleanup crew but feed the guy and i think they'll leave your fish alone

YES IF you tank is not covered with a canopy or a lid then that eel will get out.....they are suicidal....and I think they will do well with Chromis until it gets big and eats them which will probably be cool to watch...also they are kinda dumb, well blind so u have to feed with stick...IME

I had one in a fish only setup..all I had in there was a small puffer and a damsel with it
I came home a few hours late one night and the SOB went after the puffer killing everything in the tank including itself..I really liked having it "but" if I was to do it
again I would set the tank up for just the eel.

I just lost my beautiful Snow Flake this past weekend just like every one posted make sure you cover the whole tank up. I moved my fish from the 55 gallon to 125 gallon and he got out of the 125. Woke up the next day he was on the floor dried up, put him back in the tank was moving around for about 3 days but then crocked yesterday.

If any one has one for Sale I am interested.

I have 2 snowflakes in my reef. They relocate snails and hermits but havent eaten them. Kinda cool to watch LOL There is also a cleaner wrasse which is smaller than the silversides i feed it and they leave it alone. Also 2 small clown fish that they could eat but dont touch. They have very poor eyesight and i feed them a silverside or 2 every 2 to 3 days. Cover every inch of your tank because they will escape!!

Whats the best way to cover a tank with a canopy light?
Just put a huge piece of plexi glass over the tank.
Does the entire tank need to be coverer since i have an hob filter?

I got creative with gutter guard! Also egg crate works well too I wouldnt recomend plexi glass as the heat will at the least distort it. I try to seal up the whole tank as much as possible. If your canopy is closed on 3 sides just seal up the back.

Im just trying to get ideas in my head on. I guess i can just put an egg crate, the ones people use at frag shows, directly on top of the tank to prevent the escape of the eel. Thats if i even decide to get a snowflake eel.

That will work just fine Cheap too! Also just for an FYI i have 2 ribbon eels in the tank as well. In another tank i have 3 dwarf golden morays. I lost one recently and still have no clue how it escaped On that tank i have gutter guard zip tied ontop of egg crate. The only thing i can think of is it got ontop of the overflow and pushed the top up enough to escape.

either way of coveing is fine, just any fairly large openings will be a sure way for the eel to got to MR HEAVEN. Id go canopy because it adds to ur tank and will keep the eel in, but you must add some small grade, non toxic chicken wiring to the back or else the eel will be on the floor of your living room (Happen to me with a canopy and a blue ribbon eel)

The egg crate works great. You can get it from home depot 2' x 4' sheet easy to cut to size and cut out for power heads and filters. I have five different species of eels and they have never tried to escape.
