Species: Stegastes adustus
Dorsal spines (total): 12 - 12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14 - 17; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 13 – 15. Juveniles are reddish orange above, with small bright blue spots on forehead and dark spots at upper pectoral fin base, dorsal fin, and caudal peduncle; colors disappear as fish grows larger (Ref. 26938). Adults dark gray to blackish with vertical black lines on body; a black spot, sometimes diffuse, at upper base of pectoral fins which are pale; other fins dark (Ref. 13442). Biology: Inhabits rocky shores exposed to wave action. Often in tide pools. Feeds primarily on algae and detritus. Territorial and pugnacious. Generally common (Ref. 9710). Taken incidentally in traps and small-meshed beach nets (Ref. 5217).

Looks like a Jewel Damsel fish pocket expert guide "Reef Aquarium Fishes" by Scott W. Michael "2005 Edition"pg.213 Mean little thing, I gave mine to a member here. He put it in his undesirables tank.lol

Not a jewel damsel...they are black with blue spots

Not to argue with you E, but Scott W. Michaels states both are Jewel Damsels. The one you pic here is the Mecrospathon chrysurus located on pg.209 common name Yellowtail damsel, the one I pictured is found on pg.213 Plectroglyphidodon lacrymatus common name Jewel Damselfish.

ok i'm taking it;s the dusty so he's gonna get ugly and nasty ok so i get rid of him now then only fish in the12gl so far and he was so cute in the store it just said damsel fish no one new what kind oh well i live to learn thanks everyone for the help

wimby, that's how those little demons get into our tanks in the first place. They are all cute, then they get in your tank, and turn into demons.lol

My yellow tail isn't a demon he's great doesn't bother a soul in the tank the yellow is in with a royal gramma and a clown over a year now anyways maybe i'll just keep the dusty he is the first fish I wanted something small I liked him I will keep him I already named him speck lol I'll see if I can get him a freind and that will be it on fish in this tank if not out he goes I only set the tank up cause I had extra rock that I cycled for my 45 which is looking great with the new aquascape
