Im converting my reef tank (110 x high) tank to a FOWLR. I was successful with the reef just a bit frustrated with the lack of fish selection available to the reef hobbyist, and like corals but perfer the fish. I currently have 2 yellow tangs, hippo tang, pair of maroon clowns and an algae blenny

I have 2 carpet anemones, colt coral, many mushrooms, polyps, toad stool leather, spaghetti leather.

I was wondering which of these corals/anemones (do puffers, triggers eat anemones and mushrooms?) will be targeted by non reef safe fish? Will these fish be OK if I add small semi aggressive fish such as angelfish, wrasses, puffers, passive triggers (i.e. niger, picasso). All of the more agressive will be bought very small.

Well I appreciate any advice you can give me, and after some more info alot will be for sale including my 760 watt mh ligh (not sure if im gonna keep it yet, love the shimmering but might be a waste), so pics will be posted

anemone are magnets for dog face puffers. Not sure about the rest.

You might regret the move in the long run. I would keep all the equipment just incase you want to go back to reefing.
I have both, a reef & fowlr.
And no longer frustrated.:sgrin: Thanks to (Leola Shepherd my Best Friend for ever in my heart), loismustdie, slamajama,Pedro, Scarf_ace1981,KathyC,Crox99,WingoAgency, all of who helped me with the set up of my reef, and of course hubby.

I currently have a 180 FOWLR. I have attempted to put a mushroom or two in the tank just to test my triggers and puffers; all I can say it was there yesterday and gone today, lol. Don't know which one ate it; maybe it was the Queen Angel:sgrin:.

I wish I had the room for both, but mysmall apartment and already irritated roomate just wont work. The only equipment I will not need is my light, but I might keep it justleave it on the PC mode most of the time.

Besides that Im just gonna sell of the corals the will be targeted by the non-reefsafe, yet not super aggressives. This will give me some nice motivation for the hobby (which I absolutely love and research like nothing Ive done before). Ive had a tank since 02 and a reef for about 2 years. My tank looks greeat but its merely a trade off. If down the road I regret my decision, i will hopefully be in a new place with more room (just got my masters so a new job should be around the corner)

well. im merely selling off my corals (about 10 in all, and 2 anemones) and adding some new fish.

My experience with triggers and softies:

My current 20g used to hold 3 triggers for about 2 months... clown, rectangle, and niger... along with an Arc-eye hawk. They never touched the mushrooms, kenyas, or zoas, but when I transferred the Clown trigger to the 90 gallon, he took a bite out of some LPS... once. Seemed more out of curiousity, b/c he never did it again.

But they were all juveniles. I didn't have them for too long. But again, they never showed any interest in the softies.

My friend successfully had a Huma and Niger with softies for some time, and they were larger 4" +

Hope that helps...
