I hope it is not a lot of reading as I don't have a lot of spare time later in the week.
For students to get the most out of this class and incorporate into their lives, having the reading material for the following weeks class available a week [or more] in advance would be ideal.
Yes it would be, and most likely that will be case after this week, what reading material there is anyway. There isn't much in the way of reading from this point frankly, at least not like what you read for the biology/physiology material. Even if you had to squeeze it in a few minutes before class it won't be a big deal. The chat is where much of the information from now on will be disseminated.
Due to the ongoing delays in the MACO site getting up and running over the past year, there were times that I thought the class would never happen. After getting the entire course outlined, and the first few units completed very early on, I set the rest aside in favor of other projects that were pressing. Then it was on, and I picked it up again but now in the midst of writing a book as well as other projects.
You're getting the same info, delivered in the same way as always intended, it's just that due to the back and forth, on and off again nature of things early on with regard to MACO (no fault of Wade's mind you), it's not a simple matter of now pulling out the file and posting it. I'm working from my outlines, and also making decisions what to write, and what to save for the chat.
That was the big unknown for me really, how much participation would there be in the chat? How much information to save for discussion, trying to save enough subject matter so that if participation was light, the chat would still run 2 hours, etc. I needed a few classes to happen before I really had a handle on that, and I imagine that every group of people will be a bit different in this regard.
Fortunately, this isn't a chemistry class. So there isn't a tone of reading that needs to be done. I didn't see the need or point to structure the class in such a way that you read a bunch, then we have a random discussion about it. I certainly could have done it this way, but I preferre the lecture to happen in the chat.
It seemed like a much better idea to me to personalize the info a bit more according to the needs of the students in the class, and give the information in the chat where the students could interject with questions, add things, ask for clarification, etc.
All that being said, what reading there is will be up Sun/Mon next time.
