Here is a shot of a large Napolean wrasse being kept as a pet by a shipper in Cebu. He is quite proud of it and will not sell it (he says) for any amount of money. I have seen it over the course of 6 years now and it is very tame and seems happy in its large concrete tank.

Our good friend here Villi Shark is known for rescuing these great fish from the Hong Kong live food fish market and sending them to public aquariums. He has pictures of the fish market and packing and sending Napoleans out to public aquariums. I am sure that he could post a few pics here if anyone has interest to see them.

Why, that's just a baby. I used to care for one at the LBAOP who hung out in QT with an ill-tempered Picasso trigger. They would literally follow me around and around the tank, and anytime I tried to do anything inside it, they would swim-charge me. I would try to shoo them away, but got doinked anyway (the trigger, fortunately not the wrasse!).

I'm sure folks would love to see more photos.

Beautiful specimen. I remember reading one of Knop's editorials about a Napoleon being kept in an Indonesian exporters holding areas. It would actually beg for you to pet ("clean") him if you're near the water.

That damn fish has corrupted more bureaucrats, scientists and NGO people then everything in the aquarium trade combined.
The rush to sell paper by fellow "environmentalists" to make it OK to wipe-out this old growth, ancient fish and verify it "sustainable" [ ie. sustainability...while knowing nothing of it] has been a shame to witness.
