I'm bored and don't feel like going to sleep yet, so I figured I'd start a thread of just genicanthus angel pics...

Here are ones I've kept in my reefkeeping career. :)

Great shots and a thread, Chip.

Yes, the genus is also one of my favorites and I too will post some pics soon, including a Japanese endemic, G. takeuchii in their natural habitats.

I agree, this is a great thread. Sorry I don't have a pic but I have a G. semifasciatus-female. She is a great fish and such personality. I have had her almost a year now and she's grown into such a beautiful fish.

Chip, those are some awesome G. angels. 8O

Here are a few pictures of a female watanabei that changed into a male over a period of about 4 weeks. I wish I'd taken more pictures as it was happening...

hehe, there's one in there...that's what triggered the change.
Thinking they were haremic we actually added 5 females at the same time. It appears that in captivity, at least, that's wasn't the case. The changing female chose a "mate" and they then proceeded to kill the other three.

This is one of the least known angelfishes, Genicanthus takeuchii, described in 1997. It is known only from Marcus (Minami-tori-shima Island), and the Bonins (Ogasawara) of Japan. It was found by Mr. Takeuchi, a famous diver of Japan in Marcus, the southeastern Japan.

The male grows to 35 cm long and juveniles are also attractive.

It has never been collected for aquarium trading. There is no airport in Ogasawara or probably no diver who would collect it.
