Hi All,

Here is a tricky one - who can guess this species? It is obviously a cardinalfish of the genus Apogon, but what species? Here is a hint - it isn't found in the Pacific.

Hey Folks,

Keep trying, like I said - its a tricky one! Here is the next hint: It is not from the Caribbean (so can't be A. maculatus).

Here you go rare cardinalfish fans. I saw a group of these at a wholesaler a while back. Just recently found out what they were. Cool looking fish in person!

Any guesses?

Alright my next guess is the Sawcheek Cardinalfish, Apogon Quadrisquamatus. Wow, try spelling that a million times.

Matt, I say yours is the Paddlefin Cardinalfish, also known as Pseudamia Zonata.

Mike,

Nope, its not a sawcheek cardinal! Here is the next hint: "Its all Greek to me"

p.s. - Pseudamia cardinals are COOL - but I don't see them very often, great fish for nanos!

Ahhh,

Visually VERY close! I bet I couldn't tell an A. evermanni from this species by just looking at a picture of it (I've kept both species). However, that isn't that species. That brings up the difficulty of trying to identify a fish based solely on its photo. Here is another hint: it is actually a temperate species.
