Very cool. A kind of "if money were no option" moment though...

Interesting on the multifasciatus - they are supposed to be very very hard to keep when wild caught.

$120 for a healthy eating P. multifasciatus is dirt cheap, IMO. If I had the space I would so own one right now.

Maybe so, but that's still pricier than a flame angel. :P

I'm not impressed. The fact that they are guarding how they did this secretely kind of shows they're more for the profit than they care helping the aquaculture trade. (atleast for those like the respledis)

It's more like they're protecting the hundreds of thousands of dollars it's taken to get to the point of breeding said angels.

sfsuphysics,

I am going to be polite. ..

People for the first time can buy a captive breed fish that every one has been dreaming of for years, decades. Some guy on his own figures it out, years of work, years of hard long days and you can have the nerve to cry because he doesn't tell how he is doing it.
I'm not impressed
edited out by forum moderator (reefnutz) In fact if you read his articles, you would see that he gives us some very valuable information.

So let me see, RCT is just suppose to hand it over to anyone that wants to have the info? It bet that if he showed most people exactly how to raise these fish, 99% would still kill the larvae. Your in that same group of morons that think that drug companies should spend billions of dollars to find new drugs and then just give them away. So tell me brilliant sfsuphysics, why has Sea Grant and other sources of government funds spending 100K's of dollars not been able to get the same results as RCT????? When you figure out that answer you can open your stupid mouth.

And 120 bucks for a captive reared pygmy is way to cheap. Notice the SOLD OUT, bet he sold out the first day.

Gresham, oh I totally know that's probably the case, atleast partially. Captive raised or not, that's an expensive price for fish. They've been around for a little while though, I recall seeing them a couple years back, although then I think they were primarily only doing resplendens(??) and interruptus ones at nearly $1k each, they have come down a couple hundred in price. Either way too much to spend for a fish IMHO.

And yeah, do what Dan says, just tell me to STFU... although I'm curious what the moderator edited out what you said though :) So I'll just say STFU instead. Oh btw when drug companies get lots of government funding, grants, and tax breaks, then yes I do expect them to hand out their drugs for cheaper too. :P So I guess I'm a moron.

Eitherway, its still a disappointment that after 3 years they are the only ones who have really done anything. I yes I do attribute some of that to them guarding their data.

Well, Frank has gotten no government money, no grants, no tax breaks. How much are wild resplendens anyway, that's right they haven't been sold in this country in many years, since the airforce stopped letting the cargo guys bring them back into Patrick AFB. Those interruptus sell for more than a 1K wild in LFS anyway, so 800 bucks for a captive fish; that will live, is a much better deal.

They are not asking anyone to pay 10X what you would pay for a wild fish. I would argue that a $200 flame or lemon peel angel is money well spent, when you would have it for 20 years or so; but maybe I am just nuts.

So how much should a fish that took five years or so to culture cost? Lets see you work 14+ hours a days, 7 days a week, 10+ months of the year; can't raise them in the thousands of them like clown fish. So your not allowed to recover your cost and time plus maybe a bit of profit.

You can always move to France if you need to, maybe they will setup a governement hatchery and give fish away; of course you couldn't find a job, your taxes would be 70%; they would never be able to get the government red tape out of the way, so you wouldn't be able to raise them; but at least your pills would be cheaper.
