Here's the newest addition to my 50 gallon aquarium, a deepwater rose fin fairy wrasse, Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus.

This sucker is rare indeed. Just described by science in 2003 and only a handful of specimens have been available in the US. Looks very much like a flame or jordani wrasse from Hawaii except for the purple coloration.

OK, done bragging now :D

Very cool, I have been looking for a nice wrasse for my150 for a while but all my LFS' ever get in are mexican wrasses.

Do you ever order fish online? Who would you recommend for a nice flasher wrasse?

Thanks for sharing, and nice shot!

I didn't take that shot fwiw!!!

I'm nowhere near that competent with a camera. I believe that is from Bob Fenner's site but was taken by a wholesaler.

Someone is apparently finding this fish somewhere in greater numbers, because it's offered by both LA and TMC now.

I did get it online, and I got it from www.themarinecenter.com

If you have a hard to find or very delicate fish, these are THE guys to buy from. With this particular fish they bagged it eight, count em EIGHT, times. They also shipped it in a box big enough to fit a mini fridge with several gallons of water. More expensive than other online places but well worth it in my opinion.

Thanks Matt, I know these fish can be hard to shoot as they zip around!

I'll check out the marine center.

The photo shows a true bathyphilus, from northeastern Australia. It ranges also Chesterfield Bank, near New Caledonia and Vanuatu. There are three distinct color forms and the male (the photo was taken by Fenton Walsh of Australia) is typical for the species.

I have kept four males and a female from Vanuatu (Efate Island), and those from Efate is called the Hooded Fairy Wrasse. Anyway they are striking species, and are not so aggressive (see my photo).

Here are pictures of my Rosy fins. Two males and a female.

These guys are becoming much easier to come by these days. It's not as rare as it was two years ago.

Marineaquatics.net gets them in now on a fairly regular basis.[/img]

That's exactly what my male looks like, with the red concentrated more towards the head. The picture I posted was the only one I could find online at the time.

Another male, Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus, from Efate Island, Vanuatu, 8cm long. Its tail turned bright red while displaying, and the edge of the tail became neon blue.
