Does anyone have any info on this fish (Acanthurus leucocheilus AKA Palelipped surgeonfish)? I've located one at a LFS, but I want to gather some info on it b4 I buy it. I went online and didn't find any useful info except where they come from, size, coloration, etc. Thanks!

I know. I just got off the phone with Todd (works there now). There were actually two of them but the one that's still alive killed the larger one this morning:Yikes: .

I know. Now you can make one trip to Brooklyn. I live not even 5 minutes away.

He'll be going in my 180, which I'll soon be upgrading to a larger tank.

Is it a reef tank? Also does it have a lot of LR in it. A fish this large needs a great deal of swimming space. For the post part they're not to aggressive and shouldn't bother other fish. If you have a Sohal I wouldn't plan on getting this fish.

It's a FOWLR with about 250LBS of live rock. I do have a small Sohal Tang. Do you think they'll fight or what?

It depend on the size of the Sohal at the moment. Small Sohal usually get along without any problems until they start to get a bout 6"-10" range and then they all of a sudden turn and can and will kill other fish.

The size of your tank, and all that LR, will be a problem try to keep two large tangs that need a great deal of swimming room, unless they're small to start with. If the Acanthurus leucocheilus is a lot larger than the Sohal it maybe work now but down the line it will be a problem, especially in a tank that size.

The Sohal is at a size that right now where it wouldn't be a problem. In time it will be. The Acanthurus leucocheilus will probably be fine with the two tangs you have right now but in time you will have a problem. The bigger problem at the moment would be space in your current tank. A 180 with all that LR is large for a Reef tank but it's small for a tank that will have two very large tangs.

How large a tank are you planning on getting?

So we're talking months here. Then I don't think it's a good idea as by then the Sohal will be larger and you could have problems.

On the flip side you need to take into account what you can and can't have with a Sohal, even with a very large tank. They get very large, 12"-18" range, and become very aggressive. They do better with large aggressive fish, like triggers, groupers, snappers, squirrels and large angels. They should also be ok with some of the smaller tangs.
