I have 155 gal bow, fish only, wet / dry, skimmer, 25 watt UV, chiller (constant 76 degrees). Have five year old Hippo tang and and four year old purple Tang. Both fish were previously housed in 72 gal bow and developed lateral line disease. Within weeks of being transferred into 155 the lateral line itself regenerated on both fish. Both fish also had extensive color loss around face. Most color regenerated on purple tang but not on Hippo. Both fish have been in 155 for over two years now. I perform monthly water changes (45 gal) with Instant Ocean maintained at 1.21. I tried to raise salt to 1.24 but the Hippo developed a white "rash" which went away after being treated with melafix or penecillin. I feed a constant varied diet of - Formula one & two, frozen prawn, spirulina, homemade mixture of chopped seafood - clams, shrimp, scallops, dried seaweed sheets, romaine lettuce once every two weeks. I always add weekly trace replacement and monthly vitamin supplement. PH is at 8.4 alkalinity at 4 meg/l. My purple tang looks "dull" in color and the Hippo has not regenerated tissue color around face. What can I do to correct these problems????

Welcome to reefs.org, jeffs.

I would feed the romaine freely, it's what is done at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, and no one's got fatter, nicer tangs. However, your feeding schedule looks really good to me. Other than that I would suggest soaking in Selcon several times a week and offering more vegetable matter (percentage in relation to proteinaceous feed).

hey, i do agree with seamaiden, you feeding is a good variety of food sorce. matter of fact i don't do half as much as you do, i'm not saying that i'm write, more than likely i'm not. but i feed all my fish SPEPCTRUM marine fish food. every other week i give them ghost shrimp, for the wrasse and chaulk bass. i have a blue tang and purple tang. i also have a bi-color angle and a coral bueaty angle, all four of these fish also pick at the ghost shrimp. i also add trace elements to the tank. IMO the spectrum has alot of vitamins for the fish and mine are fat, fat, fat. i'm trying to get a digital camara to take some pics so everyone can see how healthy they really are. anyways, all that just to say, try looking into the spectrum and see if that might help. maybe it might have something the others don't.

good luck, and welcome to the reef :!:

Nay, WRASSER, BobF has recommended it to a man who "inherited" a banded angel that's not eating. Pablo Tebloots is the person who created it, I think.. yes?
