Hello People.

I got a flame angel two weekes ago and it has been nipping my open brain and a zoantus.
I think that I need to remove this fish and I would like to know what is the best strategy to do it? It is extremely small.

Andre,

With a small angel it will not be easy. If you know where the fish hides at night, and if that location is accessible, you can shine a bright light into its eyes at night and capture it before it gets oriented to the light.
The other way is a transparent trap that is baited.

Are you sure that the flame angel is harming your corals, because they aren't known to eat or even nibble on polyps. The flame angel is a great fish, and it should be fine. However , if you think you need to remove it, I would try a trap so as not to pull your tank apart.

8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O Ummm...excuse me. Let me correct you. The flame angel most certainly IS known to nibble on polyps! Not all of them, about 50% is the usually quoted risk.
Some do, some don't. You take your chances.

yeah, flames will sometimes nip the polyps. & clams,
The night advice you got earlier is the best option. Tearing out all the liverock sucks!

Hi,

Flames can eat corals including SPS.

As Jim said, some do and some dont, there is another problem, that the some who dont, one day can decide ,they want to start a coral diet. 8O

About catching any small Centropyge in a reef tank, I'd go for a trap, just put the food the Flame likes in it and wait till it's in, then pull it up quickly with a rope or string.

Good Luck.
