I am attempting to introduce a small (male, judging by lighter color and small size) to a 110 gallon tank with an established female maroon clown in hopes they might mate. I currently have the small maroon in a plastic container (transparent) right next to maroons territory, getting her used to him. At first she would bite the tank and act aggressivly, but seems in the two days hes been in there she has relaxed. Any advide on how I should do this?

You just did it. Be prepared to catch the male once you release him into the tank. The female may become aggressive at that time. Continue to separate them via the container until she stops attacking. Make sure there is sufficient water exchange in the container for the male.

i didnt do it w/ maroon but i introduced a juvenile percula to an established female percula. The first week or so the juvi tried to tag along with the female and would get chased and nipped. The female was just establishing dominance I imagine. It worked out ok because the juvinile was submissive to the established female. Now they are inseperable and doing great.

I didn't try to seperate them like suggested above and the juvi got dominated, but he kept coming back to the female for more. I just let them sort things out on their own and it turned out to be a match made in heaven.

Percula females are infinitely less aggressive than Maroon & Clarkii females. Here's where I got the idea from when I paired my Clarkiis a few years ago:

Pairing

Supplemental Info: Maroon clowns

no argument here...that introduction was the only time i have seen a percula behave aggressively in fact. I was just sharing my experience. :)

so after you used this method and plopped the new clown did you experience any aggression at all? Just a theory but it seems like the female would still want to show the new clown who is boss for a bit.

Yes I did. That's why I warned about being ready to recapture the juvenile. My tank, though, was much smaller than a 110g. His juvenile will have much more places to hide in case it happens.

I put him in main tank. So far female has been chasing a bit but not able to really nip due to males fast movements. The female is going about her normal anemone hogging and not paying much attention, but periodically chasing. The male seems to submissivly turn around and wave its tail and female seems to stop attacking. going better than i thought, SO FAR!

I tried with 2 tomatoes. I had an estblished tomatoe about 2 inches for over a year. I figured I would try to get a larger clown (3 inches) so that it would not get beat up by the original. That worked horribly, the larger clown bullied the smaller clown. I had to get rid of it.

there not fighting too bad but I hope the female accepts male as a suitable partner, for day one, the little guy is roaming the top of the tank away from her and she occasionally chases him.

they have decreased proximity and are now like 5inches apart with out chasing or nipping. I hope they start mating. It appears as if there beggining warm up to each other
