Hey guys, I checked all the para, everything seems to be OK. Also, it is only the female Naso that is dieing. All the other fish look great, the corals look better then they have in a while. I have no idea what has happened. I thought she was dead, went to take her out and she started to swim. She has turned a dark color, laying at the bottom on her side kinda arched at the middle. Anyone have any ideas?

Sal. 1.024
PH 8.4
Temp.79
Amm. 0
Nitrite - undetectable
Nitrate 10
PO4 0.5 or less
I checked calcium and it comes up at 540, I always end up with this high number.
Got a salifert alk test kit - I must have done something wrong there as well cause when I got the pink color and looked at the seringe the plunger was at 4 which times time 5.71 gives me another rediculously high number 21.44 that is not even on the chart.:Yikes:

Jonathan,

10 nitrates will not hurt a naso.
Dark color and lying on side is stress.

Is she being picked on?
Is she eating? If not, there is not much you can do. Make sure there's nori in the tank for her. Add some garlic and vitamins to nori and all frozen food.

Best of luck. Call me if you need any other help.

Thanks guys. This is one of my girlfriends Blonde Naso. She's been in this tank since October. She was fine yesterday. She is one of the larger of the three tangs. No one has been picking on her, no torn fins, no scars, no sign of ilness, nothing. As far as the tank para. go, (other then the red slime attack, which seems to be going away) they are at their best. PO4 was way up, and the nitrates were at 20. Everything has improved since I put the phosban, ro/di top off, and put the 600gph pump back on.
She will swim an inch or two at the bottom of the tank, and she goes and lays at the bottom again. Very odd. I think it will be a miracle if she comes out of this.

Thanks Jon, I hope so too. I've inserted 2 pics of her as she is behaving. When I went back to the tank she was at the other end of the 6'tank. Maybe thats a good sign. One can hope.:sad2: By the way I will be retreiving the patchy after 2/25.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure too. The sad part other then the naso losing her life, to me is that she was my friend's fish.:(
And this is out of no where. She was fine yesterday. she was swimming around with her mate. Eating, no signs what so ever. I swear if I had little ones in the house I think they put something in the tank.

I had pretty much the same thing happen to my naso. All parameters were fine, no torn fins, laying on the bottom, dark color. I thought he was dead and tried to take him out and he swam a little. he didnt last 2 days after that. I think they get stressed easily.

I also had the same thing happen to my naso. Had it about 6 months and then all of the sudden the same thing happened. At first I thought it was the temp; it was at 82.

Please test the ALK again.

Naso stress out very easy and probably the changing around of the tanks may have caused the problem. I wouldn't move the fish out of the tank, as that will only stress it more, unless one of the other fish is picking on it.

It's very common to have a healthy Naso all of a sudden die. They stress out very easy, specially large ones as they need a lot of swimming space and a large tank.

Thanks for the responces. I'm just feeling really bad because #1 it is my deceased girlfriend's fish, #2 the poor fish being in trouble, and nothing for me to do to help it.
Marrone, the fish is in it's original home which is a 155g Bow Front. She was moved twice from her house to my 75g. with water & lr from her home back in September when my girlfriend died, and left the tank and her livestock to me. Then they where moved into the 155g. in October when loismustdie & slamajama came to my aide.
The fish have not been bouncing around nellie willie just because I felt like redecorating. And again, there are 3 large fish in this tank, and the naso pair are the larger fish in the tank 5" or 6" follow by the pt which is 4"-5". The others are small fish 1 1/2" to 2". A grand total of 10 fish.

The carpet has to be giantic to finish off a 6"? tang without a trace. More likely it's in the middle of the sand or under the rock, I think. Monitor your parameters if you still cannot find it.

Your right I moved the big rock, and under the sand she was. I guess the snails, crabs and what ever other creatures live in the sand pulled her under. Now my tank is cloudy from looking for her.
The carpet is pretty big, but I was wondering how it managed that big fish myself.
