I got a melanurus wrasse last Thursday. As soon as I put him in the tank he went to hide. I have not seen him since and it's almost a week. Is this normal? I have a 3" sandbed? Is he in there? My water parameters are perfect. Any ideas?

Be careful with the wrasse i bought one couple of weeks ago he was doing the same thing hiding in the sand and then came out. But then he wasn't around for a while and i caught an emerald crab going at him and eating him alive by them it was to late.

I doubt the crab was eating him alive these wrasses have a tendency to hurt themselves in shipment usually the bottom jaw trying to burrow then they cannot eat causing them to weaken and die always check the mouth of a fish you interested in

There all shipped bud. What do you think he was caught in the Hudson river? Most likely Indonesian caught and SHIPPED to your lfs. Then he was thrown into a tank. You came by caught him again(not literally you) SHIPPED again to your home, introduced him to your tank. Not only was he shipped he was probably stressed. No emerald crab could ever catch nor kill a healthy non stressed melanurus wrasse.
