You could but there could be risk. I had one bangaii cardinal then I bought three more. The first one paired with one of the new ones and killed the other two one by one. Tank size probably will be an important factor. My tank size was only 65 gallons

if you end up with a pair they will fight with any other cardinals in the tank unless you have a huge tank. i had both cardinal species fight with eachother and i had 3 bangaii cardinals at one point and as soon as two paired up they beat up the other male so i had to get rid of him. best bet is to figure out if you have a male or female and pair it up/

I had on PJ then bought a second around 6 months later. The first stays out of site most of the time. I also have 2 Benggai and one is boss and makes the other stay in a corner. The PJ swims around the boss with no problem. This is in a 24 gallon.

I have two male pj cardinals in my 75 gallon and while one is clearly the more dominant, they are fine together... The more dominant one just chases the other one away when he swims near his corner of the tank he likes to hang out in... they swim around together, but when they are hanging out they each have an opposite side of the tank they go to....

I've had several jumbo ones in my 150 for a few years. Mine don't fight, but the do nip at each other to establish dominance once in a while. Mine just hang around. Personally, I think they are boring...
