i had 2 clownfish in the tank alone with a carpet anemone and a bubble tip anemone. and today when i turned on the lights one of them had a couple of marks that another clown got from the carpet anemone but that clown pulled through as i thought this one would. so i left for work and when i came home from work there was only one clown in the tank, i moved the rock and found nothing.. :-(

Yes it is unbelievable but true...
Sorry to hear about your loss.
Carpets are one of the most aggressive anemones in salt water tanks (there are much more aggressive which even can kill human but so far nobody keeps them in aquariums)
It is no matter if you'll feed your carpet or not this creature will kill anything around to grow big as fast as he can.
Mostly anemones reacting for glucose in the fish skin (clowns (and some other species like bangaii cardinals) has no glucose) that's why anemones don't even feel hosting fish, but looks like your carpet don't need to feel glucose to figure out that dinner is within.

6 inches in diameter?
That isnt all that big. I have heard of them eating more than other nems, but never a clownfish.
This sucks mostly because they are still interesting and cool looking nems.
