The different color morphs would be OK I think. I tried a female Spotted Target with my male Green Mandarin and he tried to kill her. Maybe if they were added at the same time it would work better. I have known people that kept the different species together successfully. I also have a small 30 that I tried to put them in. A bigger tank would be better too I think.

You might be lucky to get r/g/b to mate but spotted will definitely not mate or even coexist peacefully. They are different species. Even as juveniles they will be very hostile towards non-conspecifics. imo it would be cruel to even try.

I have a small blue female and a medium sized red male. The blue female is egg carrying now but wasnt when I bought her. I have seen them ascending together a couple hours after the lights went out.

Got the male first and saw him eating mysis, so I attempted a female. Didnt get these without some initial concerns and I have a stocked fuge as a backup plan until I could re-house one if it didnt take to frozen.

This is the male, the female is very shy.

Note sure about mating but co-exist of Green and Blue seems not much an issue if you start with the tank bred ones. The juveniles always lay on top of each others in the tank

tagging along ..

silly question ...

do you guys have mandarins in separate tanks or with other fish
i wanted to get one but didnt think it would survive with other fish

Staying with other fish almost has no bearing on the survival of it. When it settle in your tank, it ignores your other fish. My clownfish that is nesting need to bulldoze him away over 10 minutes because he just does not want to move away from his regular spot. The clown push the mandarin's head, his tail stay. When the clown push the mandarin's tail, the mandarin move his head back to the old spot.

The main issue is food, if you have enough pods for them, they would thrive. Therefore, if you have couple wrasses such as leopard and couple other pods eating gobies, they would compete for food. So if you see the mandarins thinning, you need to add more pods to the system.

Tagging as well!
..Also i have a R mandarin, what wingo said is spot on,well except mine eats brine shrimp and mysis. but he's with a coral beauty, rabbit, wrasse, stardust blenny, perc clown, black sebae clown, and a cherry and cleaner shrimp absolutely no problem and very little interaction between them and him.even during feeding time there's no issue i just feed the flakes and shrimp at the same time the blenny and him only compete along the floor for food and the blenny goes for the algae mostly and he goes for the shrimp.
But wingo is right, there's no sure bet the one you get will be willing to eat other things besides pods. ..oh and they're in a 55 going into a 90
