So after almost a year of battling what i thought was ich or what may have been ich or even velvet in the beginning i have come to the conclusion it is Brooklynella.

Step 1-Quarantine all fish and tank fallow for 5 weeks, re-introduction, death to all but 2

Step 2- Quarantine all fish and tank fallow for 8 weeks, re-introduction, death to all but original 2 ( foxface, lawnmower blenny) and 1 shoulder tang survived.

Step 3- Wait patiently fish aren't showing any signs of spotting, lethargy anything. Waited 6 weeks, added 2 fish. Dead in 2 days. Reinfection of old fish, no deaths

Step 4-Quarantine all Coral, lower salinity in main tank to 1.010. After 3 days added fish, dead by the next day covered in white spots and slime which seems to be what Brooklynella does. Reinfection of old fish, no deaths no progress with Hypo.

Now i'm on to step 5- Quarantine all fish again and medicate for Brooklynella, leave display tank fallow for 12 weeks. If this doesn't work i'm out of this Hobby. I'm out of patience and tired of leaking money.

Anyone have any suggestions?

In the first 4 attempts, did u Medicate the fish?

Hypo only works for ich. If its velvet, only copper works. Brook is another medication all together.

I know how u feel, I was ready to put a hammer thru my tank. I also lost all my fish but 2. Finally found out it was velvet. My 2 fish are in qt with copper. Dt is fallow till Dec 17.

I was about to ask the same question as the poster above.

Without medicating the QT'd fish - as you clearly knew you had a problem in the tank - you won't properly address the issue unless you treat with copper.

You will need a copper test kit to be 100% sure the levels required are correct.

I medicated them initially with copper and that seem to solve the problem and seem to help the 2 original fish and 3rd fish build up an immunity? I guess somewhere along the line it mutated or a reinfection with something else happened? I dont know what to do anymore. I read that formalin is the only effect treatment against brook?

Were all fish qt'd and medicated? Sounded like only the original 2 survivors were.

Once the dt is free of disease/parasite, any and all fish that go in should be qt'd and possibly treated. Otherwise your back in the same boat..

If its brook, then u haven't treated it and could be why your still having issues.
