In preparing for my new 75 Gal tank, I am trying to figure out the inhabitants of it before I even get it going.

I would like to have a pair of mated clownfish.

I can get my hands on a pair of yellow striped maroons that are already spawning.

Or should I hold out and get something else?

What do you think? I am not looking to spend hundreds of dollars on them.

Maroons can be very nasty fish by themselves. they get pretty big for clowns and I would assume a mating pair would take over a 75 gallon tank. I have a pair of false percs in my tank now that are spawning and have laid eggs. They don't really bother the other fish except the 2 wrasses in the tank, and that is only when they get near the nest.

I really like pink skunks because you just never see them and they do get really nice once they settle in. They're also pretty easy going like the percs and ocellaris. If you just wanted to stick to the percs or ocellaris though you'd still have a ton of options as far as the "designer" types.

I was looking more for pretty easy going, but not the standard clowns. So I guess I would have to look designer types then. LOL

I really want a lightning clown! LOL

if you want low agro then skunks or perc/O's

if you want to raise the fry and want low agro. Ocellaris variants.

if you want to raise the fry but dont care about agro. maroons clarkis and saddle backs.

I put saddles on the list with the more agro fish, but ime they are pretty mellow and my favorite of all the clownfish.

I do want to have the pair in my new 75 tank, but I would love to try and raise the fry in the future (i will give it a shot).

So I want to make sure that I have a set of fish that I will enjoy.... So you are saying Ocellaris ..... :)

Maroons are nasty little SOB's, or the pair I had in my 75 were. They slowly took over the entire tank. If I put my hand in the tank, they would charge it and take a little chunk out.

I am setting up a 180g, 6ft long tank. Could I put in a pair of pink skunks and a pair of Aussie black pers? --without them killing each other. Are they enough different that they won't bother each other?

Snowflakes or true percs are docile and elegant, also leaves the window open to add more fish down the road, they typically don't mess with other fish unless they get too close to their host or significant other.

I have a tank raised true perc (who I think is a misbar) who is a model citizen in my tank. He (or she) will actually come to the top of the tank at feeding time and take a piece of mysis right out of your hand/tong....he was very small when I first got him and was only orange and white and now he has really really nice black markings on him as well...good luck with your choice:)
