Going on vacation and I'm debating with my husband how often to have someone come by and feed the fish (bicolor pseudochromis and maroon clown). He seems to think every 5 days is sufficient. I strongly disagree. What is sufficient?

Best would be to keep regular schedule. Usual problem is over feeding. Give person something to measure one days portion.
It should be filled somewhere else not over the tank.
If they forget to feed one or two days that is ok and they shouldn't try to make it up in the next feeding.

If you want to avoid over feeding... just prepackage the food you want them to add for each feeding and either leave them numbered in the freezer or in the cabinet if it's dry.

+1

In the past, I've asked my local Chinese take-out place for some of those tiny Solo sauce cups & lids. One portion per closed cup, with the instructions written on a piece of paper taped to the tank.

how would you like not eating everyday,,,,,,,LOL :kidding:
you should be fine but i would stick to your everyday schedule

Good point...

2 weeks isn't too bad. You probably need about 4 large feedings.

What I did when I left for a month and a half was this. I got a bunch of plastic cups, mixed the food I had to mix and put them in the fridge. All my parents had to do was pour the cup into the tank every 3-4 days and that was it. I came home everybody looked happy.

Maybe you can have a friend or relative just drop in really quickly and do that.

There's also automated feeders.
I would reduce feeding when I was gone, but not that dramatically. There's more likely to be issues when you leave the tank unattended for that long, so a little less food will help with any outbreaks, but once every 5 days is not enough.
