Hi all,

Heres the plan,

I have a 40B (sumpless) been running for about a year now, but I want to make my own hot fuge with acrylic.

Would it be feasible to have the outlet of my eshopps hob skimmer to send water into the fuge instead of into the tank?
It would save me from having to have another powerhead pulling water into the fuge.

Is it doable?

Thanks!

I think it'll depend on the flow of the output from the skimmer. I don't know how powerful a pump the skimmer uses. You don't want to be blasting water through a refugium - the flow should be relatively slow/mild to allow the algae to do its thing and remove nitrates and phosphates from the water. Otherwise, it would work perfectly as that's how a lot of sumps are set up. Water flows from the display tank -> skimmer -> refugium -> tank.

Yea I'm going to look into how much flow there is from the skimmer.

I was looking into using a 110 as well, they are a little pricey though...How has it been working for you? Do you get alot of pods/brittles from it?

Pods yes, bittles no, simply because I didn't start with any brittles in there. Online and one lfs near me sells 110's for 64.99. And seeing how its pump and fuge made it worth it for me. I have even added a baffle, so I can add floss or filter pad to prevent debris from gettin into fuge

if you're goign to be paying $65. Might as well buy the CPR refugium knock off on ebay for $15-30 more depending on the size. The wider one I've seen for $100 shipped.
