With the likely move to a slightly smaller tank the option to use LED's is now a more viable one. I would be doing a DIY using a RapidLED setup. I going back and forth between a 24 light kit and a 36 light kit. Looking to use a 50/50 mix of Blue/White. With the depth of the 65 would I be that much better going with the 36 or can I get away with the 24? The tank will be mostly Soft/LPS with perhaps 2-3 SPS's just to get my feet wet.

For the 24 light setup I was thinking:

12 Cool White Cree XP-G R5 LEDs
12 Royal Blue Cree XR-E LEDs
12 Cree XR-E Lenses (60 degree black lenses)
1 Mean Well LPC-35-700W driver
1 Mean Well LPC-60-1050 driver

For the 36 light setup I was thinking:

18 Cool White Cree Q5 XR-E LEDs
18 Royal Blue Cree XR-E LEDs
36 Cree XR-E Lenses (60 degree black lenses)
3 Mean Well LPC-35-700W drivers

Would the use of the G's in the 24 light kit make up for the difference between this and the 36 light setup?

ANY help you guys could give would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm doing an LED fixture for my 57. It's probably the same length and width (36 x 18) as your 65 only a few inches shorter (21 vs 24). I'm using 46 LEDs. 18 XPG white, 18 XPE royal Blue and 10 XPE Blue. with 4 Meanwells, all dimmable so i can adjust the light spectrum and intensity.

Thanks! Am I correct in assuming your using the XPE blues as actinic?

Thanks,
