The technicians at Ecotech must know a reputation is made by producing a quality product and enhanced by an even better service department. I cannot be more satisfied with their service - even my wife was impressed. My decision to buy 2 MP-40w's several years ago was a good one, the pumps work great but one dryside got wet and had some trouble. I mailed it to Ecotech, the day they received it they had looked at it. The next day I had the problem solved. I also sent them the wet side (in peices) - they cleaned it & fixed it to the point that it looks and performs as new. These people must love their pumps. The pumps are worth every penny spent knowing the company will stand behind it completely. Thanks Ecotech!

Seems like many issues with them, and all resolved, although they should have resolved the same problems everyone is having, before releasing them to the public, still a hassel, and for the price paid, should not happen, agreed?

best customer service in the industry (or at least up there at the top)

cutting edge product that does exactly what is says it will

cheaper and better than tunzes (which also breakdown) try getting the same level of service from them

I have both tunze and vortech. I have to say the customer for both are very good. It would be difficult to choose a winner.

One thing I will note is ecotech will want you to buy a part, then send the broken one back. If it's covered under warrantee they refund you.

TunzeUSA just sends you a new part

That is the only reason I would choose Tunze as the CS winner. More convenient for warrantee repairs.

Also Tunze is much cheaper.

Compare a 6105 to a MP40W the vortech is $100 more. When you need several even with the Tunze controller sold separately it's cheaper.

"Better" is subjective. I like both for different reasons.

Tunzes run forever with very little maintenance.

Vortech looks nicer and great flow pattern but noisier and more maintenance with "wear parts" that eventually need to be replaced.

not agreed, please read my post again. It states the dry side got wet and that I owned the unit for several years.

it has been a couple years since i priced it out, but i remember two 6101's plus a controller would set you back around 1200. the vortechs at the time came to just about 800 all in.

also the tunzes were friking huge. i guess now that they have the smaller ones it isnt as much of an issue.

also, when my 6100 died they made me pay for a new impeller. ecotech has replaced two wetsides for me for free so far. i guess it all depends on the individuals experience (like most things)

both are great pumps, but i have to say after running the vortechs for a while now, i am never going back to a tunze setup (unless the tech/prices change)

There is a lot of talk about how awesome Vortech powerheads are... can someone with a bit more experience please explain (via PM, so as not to hijack this thread) why I would want to go with an MP20w over say a Koralia pump? The price difference is vast, and I am wondering if there are other tangible differences that legitimize the cost, other than great customer service and the attractive look. I'm planning an upgrade to a Solana 34g soon, hence the question.

there is no 20w, but for a 40w here would be my opinion vs. koralias.

1. you definitely dont need a vortech. if you have koralias and like em, then use em

2. the advantages for me mostly are the controller, the flow pattern, and the tank real estate.

avi, if you want to see what they can do come up to my place. i have three of them on a 93 cube. i also have some old koralias and some small tunze 6025's we coudl stick in for comparison.

no worries on hijacking, my guess is as the tank gets smaller heat transfer from the pump becomes a greater issue. The vortech has little or no heat transfer, it is also much less intrusive in your tank and has several settings and speed adjustments. Esthetically it will be harder to hide the koralia. Should it break you don't have to worry ab service, just get a new one! You know your budget the best. It is easy to figure out what my recommendation is, good luck

So much for not hijacking... :)

In that case, I guess I meant the MP10.

I'll PM you and see if stopping by one day would be workable for my unhealthy work schedule, lol.

Thanks!

I have Vortech's in all of my tanks. I have Koralia's in my mixing buckets and use them for a variety of purposes in my sumps (for dead spots and what-not).

I don't think any other pump parallels the Vortechs when it comes to flow. (I have had a number of Tunze's in the past)
Eco-Tech usually joins us at our swaps - do come see them demonstrate the flow patterns available on these units. They are amazing!

I also agree about their customer service -it's excellent :)

+1 Very accurate post !
One more thing I would like to say if you need to install pump on the overflow (some people need) I'm not sure if vortech can be installed in that position?

they make these little boxes that you can use to keep the dryside dry *for solanas, etc* but i dont know if i would trust it.
