LED fixture review please

One of my 400w ballasts is shot and need to replace. Should I start upgrading to LED? I found this, but I know nothing about LEDs, and this company. Anyone fill me in??

1 watt bulbs are junk and those fixtures aren't dim able. I would look at wingos and Pacific sun, and there are a couple of more just to a search. This is my tank with wingo's LEDs with 3 watt bulbs and dim able too.

Highly suggest a switch to LED's. I own an Aqua Illumination Fixture and love it. Acan Lighting also makes a quality fixture.

1 Watt bulbs aren't necessarily junk. Pacific Suns employed 1 Watts for their first gen bulbs. These evolution LED's come from the same supplier who supply Blue Moon Aquatics on Marine Depot (from the looks of it-- probably some internals are a little different like ballasts and heatsinks). It's not necessarily junk but you have to watch out for a few things and don't expect too much on the high end.

If you went this route I am sure it's fine but I would just double check and see that there are 2 cords and 2 individual switches. In addition to that, double check their cooling methods and see what they are using. I would've bought these but I didn't like the fact that the ballasts were internal. I know many people with these "China LED's" as I have dubbed them and they seem to be fine with it. Chanman, Knugenx, and Pecan2phat has these on the forum. The feature set isn't rich but it gets the job done.

i have ssen these at local fish store in clifton New Jersey !! they have them lit up over a dry ytank in show room not over a running tank! they look ok but the on off swicthes look a bit cheap

Void Acan light - poor quality. you can't replace the led bulbs on your own. I return my light to back to company twice in 11 months. I also saw the dead LEDs in few month old Acan light on my LFS too.

Okay, I'm kinda letting the cat out of the bag here but...

ReefTech LED's are going to released in about 3-4 weeks. These fixtures are going to absolutely kick butt. Look for an official release notice from me in the coming weeks with full specs. I will just say that this fixture has:

- Traveling Sun Technology - intensity will move from one side of the tank to the other throughout the course of the day.

- Multiple Spectrum Diodes - Multicolor leds to create full natural spectrum

- EVERY component is of high quality. Many issues arise from fixtures on the market today because of low quality immitation parts that are subbed to keep costs low. EVERY last component in the ReefTech light is name brand quality right down to the resistors on the board. Basically, no expense was overlooked and no corners cut.

- CREE XPE & XPG 3 watt bulbs ***Driven at full 3 watts. Many fixtures boast 3W Cree bulbs but are completely under driven at 1 - 1.5 watts to avoid using higher grade parts like premium heat sinks, etc... Total of 180 watts to each fixture.

- Off the chart PAR levels.

- Touch Screen controller with wireless integration with upcoming Reeftech products such as wireless controlled dosing pumps, DC wireless return pumps, etc... Ultimately, Reeftech looks to have their ReefMaster Touch controller hold Apps that control the entire reef setup.

- Full storm effects, lighting, random cloud cover, 28 day lunar cycle.

Each unit will be optimum for 24 x 24 coverage.

Not to get too much into it, yes. For a lack of a better description, the ReefTech Prometheus is from the same base ideas behind the PacSun LEDs but with everything we dreamed of dumped into it. ReefTech agreed to back us in the complete reimagining of the PacSun and everything we knew about it into a Superior Premium fixture. Me personally, after working for over a year with LED fixtures like Pacsun, I can honestly say the "Prometheus" will blow you away. The simple reason, it was designed by our existing knowledge of Modular fixtures and was backed by Reef Enthusiasts that wanted to see everything we ever wanted in a fixture be realized. The final product is amazing. We will be looking for exclusive regional retailers so you should see them on display soon!

Is ReefTech a new company/product or a PacSun product?

Hi Joe, I don't want to cause any confusion. ReefTech is its own entity unrelated to PacSun. ReefTech is still honoring and handling PacSun Warranties in the US but no longer will be selling PacSun Products. ReefTech is releasing a new set of products beginning with the Prometheus LED. The ReefTech fixtures will all have the "Sun Module Powered Core" which is the heart of these fixtures.

You can consider these lights as the Next Generation "PacSun Type" fixtures but PacSun in Europe is doing their own thing now and PacSun USA no longer exists. ReefTech basically took apart and reconstructed everything to perfection. Plus they added some awesome innovations of their own.

But I don't want to worry Pacsun owners across the US. Warranty support will definitely continue to be honored by ReefTech.
