Hey guys, for people that dont know me I have a 65 gallon that I am trying to switch over to completly sps. I currently have a wavepoint 4x39w fixture and a solarmax 2x39w fixture over the tank. All of the sps in my tank has great color and the slimer, bridsnest, and monit's are growing really fast. Ive swapped out all of the stock bulbs and Im running a combo of mostly ati bulbs with a wavepoint and uvl sprinkled in.

I am picking up a nova extreme 6x39w fixture on friday and Im gonna run the solarmax with it for a total of 8x39w bulbs.

i was thinking front to back

blue+
uvl super actinic
ge 6500k starcoat
blue+
uvl actinic white
blue+
ati aquablue special
blue+

I think the additional two bulbs and the active cooling will significantly increase the overall par for the system, and I hope it will cause a growth spurt in mille and table tops.

What do you guys think, 8x39 t5ho gonna give the results Im looking for?

I believe your going to be fine with 312Watts of lighting for your 65Gal. I'm a firm believer of Watts per gallon. 3 Watts min, 5 Watts Max.
With your current config on lighting, your going 4.8 Watts per gal which is pretty good.

really isnt going to be extra par. more light but not light directly over particular corals, just wider coverage. and extra light isnt going to cause a growth spurt, maintaining proper levels, temps ect will do more for the growth then extra light

+1, what you are doing is having more lights for coverage. I run three 660 icecap ballasts with 4 bulbs each for a total of 12 bulbs. with this I get good par and because of width on my tank, coverage.maintain your parameters and you should get some good growth.

I have a 12" 4 bulb fixture that Im replacing with a 6 bulb 12" fixture with active cooling how will that not increase par? I understand the coverage is going to be better, but I'm pretty sure that the actual amount of light reaching the corals will also increase considering im packing another 78 watts in the same space.

levels as of 9/15

calcium 460
dkh 10
ph 8.2
temp 78f
magnesium 1350
no detectable nitrates or phosphates

I dont get why adding more lights to the tank isnt gonna increase growth on the more light demanding corals. Well either way, I pick the light up on friday so Ill see how things go once I make the switch.
