i have a 125 gallon tank .. started it 2 months ago . i have 6 chromis, clown tang, and a Caribbean tang. the bubbles in the skimmer aren't reaching below the cup. they are halfway where the water comes into the skimmer ! is this because i have a low bioload ? i have the depth at 6-8 inches. The piece where you adjust the air flow is there supposed to be water in there ?any help would be appreciated .

thank you, mike

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but I don't believe you should have water in the airhose. The air inlet should of course be above water. Make sure you don't have a kink or break in the airline. You should also be adjusting the air flow to find that "sweet spot" where you get maximum bubble production. How long have you had the skimmer? They usually need a break-in period.

Hi Finz

Can you take a photo of the skimmer running and Ill see what i can do to help.

usual issues are:

1. New skimmer that needs to bed in (takes anywhere from a few days to a week or so)
2. Feed pump isnt powerful enough or has poor flow rate (external models only which doesnt apply to you..)
3. Air taps / air lines are closed/kinked etc restricting air intake...(the SC doesnt use flow taps as it uses a baffle to reduce noise..
4. intake to pump is blocked with debrit etc (flap in the impellor housing is stuck. (consequently you get a reduction in flow rate)
5. Salinity is very low...(yes it does happen believe it or not)
6. Outflow adjuster hasnt been wound down/up far enough to back pressure the skimmer body and raise the internal level..

also have a read through the instructions again to check everything..possibly strip the pump to see if its got anything restricting it.

have a look through those possible issues Finz and let me know.
