okay i recently purchased the coralife aqua chiller 1hp from a member on this site. i got a really good deal for it but i am having a problem getting to run properly. we worked out a deal so if i can't fix it i can my money back... but i am a do it your self type of guy. i want to see if i can get some help in possibly getting this thing to work.

OKAY. i have water flowing through it ...so there is no blockage.
the display keeps showing the power led on, also the current temperature 80-81.
i go to change the temp by hitting the "set" button...its one of those plastic film type of buttons... but you feel it "make contact". it does absolutely nothing.
so far i took apart housing of the chiller and the control panel where the display is and i do not see or smell any burnt wires/resistors/capacitors etc.

What i know thus far.... the temp probe is working. tank thermometer and chiller display close to the same.
the SET , UP , and DOWN buttons click but do not change anything.
water flows through it without any problems.

What i need is a WIRING SCHEMATIC and/or a knowledgeable person who knows chillers/ac setups and could point me in the right direction. will pay for experienced service. sure i could send it out to be repaired... but i want to see if i can do this first.

thanks for you time people.

Have you tried to find the owner's manual online. Usually if you type in the model or serial number in a google search box you can get a hit. GL on your search.

If the default is 76 you can leave set to 76 and use a ranco or other type of controller to turn power on when the temp rises above whatever you set it at.

Then it only turns on when it needs to and as long as you keep your water temp above 76 it will always run when the controller turns the power on.

well ... good news... i was able to jump the controller buttons. basically the ribbon cable and the buttons attached were inop. so i used a paperclip and was able to set it at 78 degrees w/ 2 differential degrees.....

bad news... the chiller stayed on for 3 hours and did not drop the temperature of my 150g tank by a single degree... needs to be charged.

soooo... where can i charge this thing? i looked for a port to fill with i am assuming R 134. didnt take the chiller completely apart yet but hopefully i can find something.

Many of these chillers do not have a port to recharge refrigerant. It requires a bit of work to install a port and recharge.

There is a guy in NJ who does it. Maybe someone else remembers his name. You might be able to find a diy how-to on reefcentral.
