http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+8075+20394&pcatid=20394
but cheaper. lol (yeah right..)

i have an aquatic life 4 bulb T5 fixture but want to upgrade to MH

Any ideas? i just want to be able to have MH and actinics.

i have no idea how buying separate ballats and pendants work or how to make my own housing to hold all of it together. id rather go the DiY route but i have no idea where to start looking on how to do these things.

If your looking for cheap MH lighting you can try aquatraders.com . But remember you get what you pay for! I herd both good and bad things about them. The bulbs they come with are extremely white and not real good quality so for starters you will want to change the bulb asap. And the bad part, I remember reading a thread some where that a person almost burnt down there home using one of there fixtures. Not sure if it was true or not but I wanted you to know before you think about purchasing one of there lights.

Your best bet for buying a MH/Actinic fixture of any quality at a "reasonable" price is to get a used system from someone here. New systems that are cheap are just that --cheap and buyer should beware. There are great deals on lighting all the time in the marketplace. Just be patient until you see what you are looking for. You can also post a want to buy thread.

My friend has an Aquatraders.com mh/t5 lighting system for a 6 ft long tank. He has had it for several years and loves it. Yet, as said, I have heard good and bad for this system.

Also, as stated getting a used good light, can be a great answer.

As far as getting a great price for a used system. I have seen really great deals on MR and LIRA. I myself have bought lights from MR and got great deals.

You have to do research and know what you are looking for. Also, be flexible, because it is hard to get a specific brand, so a little flexibility really helps.

What I try to do, is get equipment that is usually only a couple of months old and pay a cheap price because this equipment is still used.
