ASM Skimmer Owners

Hello everyone...I was thinking of making this thread so people can share their opinion on these skimmers and discuss maybe mods that are possible for them. I have an ASM G4+ and I've been looking around to see what kind of mods you can do to them. Mine is pretty stock minus a 45 degree elbow inside the chamber so that the pump can shoot water down so more of the chamber gets used since for some reason ASM puts the water input so high up. Well I'm looking forward to hearing from others.

I also have the g4+ do you feel the 45 helps its performance ? mine is currently stock.

I have the g4 which is awsome I mod the skimmer and added another sedra pump to it as a recirculating pump wihich basically takes the water in the skimmer and pumps it back in with more air .works great pulls like crazy def work doing this mod there are so many micro bubbles u can't see threw any part of the skimmer at all great mod

Umm yeah I think it helps, I tried to plumb it from the inside to it literally uses the entire chamber but that just made a lot of micro bubbles go into my system so I scratched that idea. I was looking at recirculating mods for it but idk how I feel about that

Oh ok thanks, that's the mod I was mostly interested in getting some feedback on. You think we can get some pics and maybe a little explanation of how you did it and which sedra are you using for the recirc? The g4+ already has a 9000 instead of 5000

I have a G2 and am using it as a recirc, works great, using a mag 5 for recirc

Doing the recirc mod to the ASMs is awesome! I may have some pics in my gallery from way back when if not I can post some from when I sold it to Shaun. It's a really easy mod to do and gravity feeding a skimmer is always awesome and better than pump feeding.

Ill get a few pics tonight for you I think I used a 5000 for the recirculator pump its well worth it made the skimmer pull like a mofo lol it basically takes the water from the skimmer pulls it threw the pump and adds more air to it then pumps it directly back I

I used to own a G2, I had the gate valve mod and the recirc. Overall, I feel it was not the greatest skimmer but good for the price. I have an I-tech cone now, much better,IMO, but more expensive. I still have the gate valve if anyone is interested, I will sell it cheap.

I have an ASM G3 on my 75g. Recirculating mod with a MJ1200 feed pump. I plan on modding it to gravity feed, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Amazing skimmer.

Yeah I think ASMs are pretty good skimmers overall, price as build, minus the fact that the input of the water into the chamber is so high up from the bottom of the chamber that it kind of wastes a bit of reaction space/time. For those of you who have done the recirc mod, would a Rio 2100 w/ needlewheel be good enough for my G4+? Also can you guys explain how the recirc is supposed to be setup, does the recirc pump need it's own air intake or is it to just take the air that's already in the chamber and chop it up even more?

Ill post them tonight sorry guys it the pump draws water and air from the skimmer chamber and it also has its own airline like the main pump which brings in more air .so that wasted space ur talking about will now be filled with air u can't see threw any part of the skimmer chamber after the mod
