So I am in the market for a new sump for my setup and I had a silly thought. Obviously you can get a custom sump with different sections and baffles for various areas. But is it really necessary and are the benefits worth the extra cost? Besides the obvious trapping bubbles and preventing them from re-entering the display tank or possibly increasing exposures time to a skimmer or whatnot? Any thoughts?

Nope, not a chance....unless of course you physically stood over your tank 24/7/365 to constantly replace evaporated water. On a 100g tank you should expect 2-2.5 gallons of evaporation every day. Bigger tank/system, even more.

Ok

Skimmers that are designed to run in a specific depth of water are not nearly as efficient in fluctuating depths.

Anything can be done to make a system run. Not everything done is optimal.

But that's what the ATO is for, no? Most skimmers run optimal within a certain range and i'm sure your ATO would (or is supposed to) kick in by the time it leaves that certain range..

Do people really still get MB? From what? From what I remember, people would be getting MB from their older design skimmers and from a weak plumb job...
