I'm thinking of checking out Petco this weekend for a 30 gal tank to upgrade my QT and I was wondering if anyone can suggest a decent filter. I was thinking of buying a canister filter. I was using a sponge filter on my 10-gallon QT and I wasn't too pleased with its performance.

Would a canister be ok?

Thanks!

Water changes would be ok too. You don't really want chemical filtration if you are going to be using medicine to treat.

I thought about that but couldn't think of a solution. Maybe if I had to treat I could do it in the 10-gallon?

Even with weekly water changes, I wasn't pleased with the sponge filter.

Canister will work for you wlif its a fish only quarantine , if your trying to quarantine corals then you will want to go a different route but for fish a regular canister is fine

+1 for Aqua Clear 70. I have one on a 20g QT. I also added a small koralia on the opposite side of the tank for more flow and airation.
Just be sure to take out the ammonia and carbon pads that came with it. You can leave the sponge and the ceramic media.
