does the apex lab grade ph probe have a cap?

Im re calibrating my ph probe and is the black rubber cap on the probe need to come off? iv been running it for months with it on lol

I know the other probes come in a solution

My pinpoint had a rubber cap. It had some wet cotton inside.

Unfortunately, with the cap on like you've had it results in not testing your pH for those few months

So yes, the cap needs to come off. It is only on there as packing material from the manufacturer to contain a liquid to keep the probe tip from drying out (which will render the probe useless).

ok thanks, when calibrating, if the settling number doesnt move, is there something wrong? or does that mean the probe is calibrated correctly

When calibrating you need to use two calibration standards. Always use pH 7 and you can also use either pH 10 or pH 4. Most reefers use pH 10 since we need to maintain levels between 7 & 10 and it just seems more appropriate. With two different reference points your pH monitor MUST change. If it doesn't, there's a problem.
