Check on Bulk Reef Supply and they have a calculator... It will tell you how much to dose. Then you need to figure out how long it will take to dose that amount. and then just set a basic timer on the Apex. I have 2 dosing pumps that I am waiting to set up. I need to benchmark my levels first.

I agree with thirty5, check to see how much you need to dose first.

I actually just installed the same doser on my Apex for Magnesium. I set it to run from 12AM to 12:45 AM. that's 45 mins which is 49.5ml. I'm not sure what you are using to dose, but I know Brightwell is at most 50ml a day at the beginning to get your levels up (this is to avoid stress in the tank I think).

Here is my program for the Doser Outlet on the Apex

Fallback OFF
Set OFF
If Time 00:00 to 00:45 Then ON

It's always OFF except between 12AM and 12:45AM (Apex is in 24hr time format)

From what I've been told, set it to go during the night to avoid stress in the tank.

Side Note: There is a note on the BRS Doser instructions that says don't use for 66 mins straight or something like that. If it's longer than that, you'll have to split it into 2 different times, like during the day and during the night.

Of coarse check daily until you get to where you want, then turn off the dosers for a couple of days and see how much your levels drop. Afterwards, see how much you need to dose daily and adjust the dosing times on the Apex

thanks guys. i will have to test my tank for a week or so before i can start dosing? i know i usually do a WC on sundays and my water will be at 380/400 cal and 6.8 alk. once i do a 5/7 gallon wc i get about 410 cal and 7.3 alk. do i have to dose different amount each day or should it be consistently dosed?

I did a daily dose to get my levels up (Cal, Alk, Mg) to where I needed. I ended up getting a calcium reactor that keeps my Cal and Alk where I need them to be and the BRS Doser for the Mg levels.

You'll have to test everyday around the same time until you get them up to where you want them.

What salt are you using? This will effect your levels. When I used Instant Ocean, I had to dose a lot to get my levels back up. Once I switched to ESV, I didn't have to do that.
