I used a coil denitrator for several years. Did not like it and debated about 3 months ago as to how to control nitrates.

Decided to do try mangroves and macros, Nitrates is not 0 but thus far I have not needed to clean my glass nor is there unwanted matter growing on the rock.

I guess I should add that when I had a coil filter I also has a HOB overflow box and I got tired of sucking water to create flow for both the wet dry overflow and the gravity coil filter.

I lost interest in the coil due to the work I had to put into it every time I changed water.
