I know the obvious answer is reef safe silicone, but in my mind thats going to be messy and not a clean look. I've also seen those latex/rubberized dips that you would use to re-coat the handles on your tools ie pliers, dykes and the like. I'm not sure of the toxicity of that stuff though. The magnets i will be using are rare earth magnets i picked up from harbor frieght. There super small but very strong.

Thanks trig, thats partially why im messing with the magnets in the first place, wanted to make a probe holder instead of buying one for 30 plus shipping. Ill coat the magnets and see how the hold up. I was only going to spray they magnet that would be in the water but now that i think about it i should probably do both in order to give the one on the outside of the glass some cushioning against the glass

Why not just coat them with a coat of epoxy. Inert when dry and strong. Just be sure to coat them well. Some shiny rare earth magnets are coated w copper and than nickel. There is a good thread on RC that shows a guy who covered his in casting resin. Search for DIY Frag rack on RC.
