it seems like i may have to put a elbow barbed/threaded fitting into my return bulkhead so that i can put pvc ball valve on my 3/4 vynyl return line without bending the vynyl hose the point where it will constrict flow.

i know elbows are frowned upon due to constricting flow.

any ideas on what i can do? my return pump is definatly over powered...so would that push open vynyl hose? would an elbow really matter since i would have alotof flow going thru anyway ?

While elbows do decrease flow (increase head). As long as your pump has enough power then you are fine.

When I ran my 175 my pump was actually over rated for the tank (was given to me) so I actually had to decrease the flow of the pump.

As long as your turn over rate is enough, then elbows really will not matter.

hmm yes i was planning on using the irrigation fittings that are threaded on one end and barbed on the other...i should find out if they make a 45. And i will be using a deep blue triton 5 which has a flow rate of somewhere between 1300 and 1400 gph if i remember correctly and has to travel maybe 3 feet or so
