DIY Sump

:givebeer: I just bought a 29 Gallon tank to make into a sump. Already had (4) baffles made of 1/4" glass cut 9 x 11 3/4. I have the aquarium silicone. Is an "Expert" out there available to come over my place to glue these baffles. Question: would it be better to have drilled holes on the sump?

You really don't need an expert to silcone the baffles into place. It is as easy as it seems, and if it seems complicated to you; you are overthinking it.

Whether you needed holes drilled in your sump, is completely dependent on how you want to run it. If you wanted external pumps, then you should have it drilled.

hey wolverine, thor here, LOL, listen its easy if you have the pieces already cut. all you do is get 2 blocks and place them on the bottom of the tank, then place the baffle on top of it and glue to the sides only, not to the blocks. then let it settle in overnight. also use a plastic spoon to do the edging to make them look nice and seal it properly. then after 24 hours remove the blocks. it should stand there by itself. after that take the other 2 sides and evenly place it away from the preset baffle on either side. then just glue the bottoms and the sides of those. and let settle. also have reenforcements on either side of the new baffles so they do not move. and let dry 24 hours.

you can take a square and mark out where you want the baffles on the outside of the tank. Then you have lines to set the pieces to. If you really want sexy edges on your silicone, put a piece of blue painter's tape 1/4" or so away from your baffle. (put two pieces 3/4" apart and get both sides at once!)

once you smooth out the silicone, pull the tape. Nice straight lines.
