Question Ladies and Germs.

I have a 29g. I would like to set up 2 10g next to it. The top one being the Display Fuge and the 2nd being the Sump. Can this be safely done without loosing any real power from the return pump since it will have to do a 45 angle in and out to feed the Display Tank?

Here is a VERY basic Blueprint

My Questions:
- Will the 45 degree bend cause any major restrictions?
- Size of in and out? I was thinking 1/2 inch in 3/4 inch out (or 3/4 inch in and 1inch out)
- Size return pump?

Well, I would say the final amount of water in the 2 displays would be 39G then amount of water in sump. I would run a pump that's 3-5 times that amount of water per hour. The 45 degree shouldn't restrict the flow too much.

Consider drilling your 10G display fuge instead of siphon? Or get an aqua lifter just in case, you don't want a flood.

Here's a good article that might shed some light.

I like the setup and would go with the larger return pumps and drilling the fuge. I would however say that you should add a second drain to the fuge .3 to 1 inch above the main drain within the level of the top so that if there is any blockage with algae, snails, etc, there will not be overflow issues. I would also think that there should be a backup pump in the system. If the display drains to the bottom of the overflow during an outage how many gallons go to the sump and how much backflo?
So backup on fuge drain, backup pump, and check valves so the backflo is stopped.
Few extra dollars vs pissed Landlord or Mrs.

2 gallons was actually a slight over kill for my 40B. I had coralline algae covering ~50% of the tank stuck to the glass... but it worked great. I would say that 1/2 gallon would prob be enough if you don't anything stuck to the glass. If you really want it spotless, you can do 1:10 bleach bath, rinse til bleach is gone then do vinegar bath. Nothing will survive from that.

Question ladies and gentleman,

I want to do the BeanAnimal with a coast to coast overflow. I have a return pump measured for 700gph. Would 3/4 drains and 1/2 return be to much? i've been reading up on this and have been hearing that those measurements are just fine for a 29g. Personally i feel that 3 1 inch drains is just a tad bit excessive. your views?

i got an 1 inch drain i and wish i went with a 1.5. if the drain is on top to mid level of the tank (i am assuming) it will not have the water pressure to drain compare to those that are located on bottom of the tank. but if u have 3 3/4 drain i think it will be okay. 1 inch is probly a over kill.
