How long can coral frags stay in a plastic ziplock bag?

Hey guys, I want to get some frags from a friend but i'll have to leave them in a plastic ziplock bag for over 12 hours until I get home. Is this safe to store frags in a bag over 12 hours? Can I open the bag and shake the bag during the 12 hour time period?

Like Devious said "Keep it warm". Think about this.... I've had corals shipped from Florida and California next day air and they didn't make it into my tank till 8 or 9 P.M. Total time roughly from point A to point B 24- 30 ==hours. Thriving till this day in my tank. Hope that helps.

I buy frags at work and while they aren't in the bag for like 12 hours, more like 6, I try to keep filling up a cup with hot water and laying the bag on it to keep it warm. Also you could try a cooler that's insulated, even throw a hand warmer in there.

I wouldn't put it on top of a hot cup because you might start cooking it from the heat. They're much more sensitive to the extra heat then a little too cold. If constantly refilling a hot water cup will make the temp go up and down which stresses them more IMO. I rather just get a cooler and tape a heat pack to the top of the cooler (you don't want it on the bottom because then it can transfer the heat too fast to the coral when touching)

Warm/hot water has less oxygen content than cool water. You're much better off keeping the coral in an insulated cooler with a heat pack taped to the top, like Ming said. The corals will be fine for 12, 24, 36 hrs.

You're actually better off with less water in the bag. 1/3 water:2/3 air is a good ratio to follow for fish as well as coral.

Thanks for all your helpful responses. I'm getting frags of green monti cap, pompom xenia and bali green slimer from a friend. He'll bring several baggies filled with water and i'll ask him to put them in a heat pack. That should do the trick. Thanks again for all your help.
