I bought a few polyps of zoa's a while back and they are beginning to spread across the rock i have them on but recently a Ricordea began to grow out of the same rock and has begun to grow large enough to push against the zoa's and even cover a polyp or two. Is there anyway of removing the ric from the rock, and not kill it? I was told that I could just cut it off at the base but wouldn't the ric just grow back from the base?

removing the zoa is easy, peel one and the rest will follow.

You make it sound so easy. I have a 10" rock full of these ugly grey zoo's which I can't seem to remove. I try to 'peel' them, but I usually end up removing the 'head' only, and not the base and they regrow. Theres probably hundreds of them on the rock. Its been banned to my jawfish tank because I don't want it to spread further.

I would rather remove the ric because I like where the zoa's are placed and also because i have too many ricordea's in my tank atm.

Really? I didn't think that was possible! lol

Just be gentle when you try & move the ric off the rock. They tear easily and it may not heal if damage the foot too much. Follow the directions the guys gave you above to re-home the ric.

Has anyone ever tried to cover a Ricordea or partially block it so it doesn't get light and wait for it to detach? One of the ones that I first received from my brother detached itself from the rock it was on during the 8 hour drive down to my house.

I would say that if the ric came off te rock in hours then there were other reasons. If that were totally true then you would have a big problem, cause your tank lights are off more than 8 hours...

Romove the ric with a razor blade, it will be fine.
