Sps polyps extension

Most of my sps polpys only come out after the lights are off. Why is that? After light comes on for a while most of my sps polyps retract. Is this how most SPS behavior????

I can't really speak much about this cause for some reason all my sps polyps are out. how is the flow in the tank are the corals getting hit with direct flow. is it all ur corals that do this. I used to have one sps I forget the name of the 1 coral that did it to me the polyps only came out at night but it was only for a short while then I guess it got used to the tank and the polyps are out during mh light period.

I have two tunze 6101 on pulse and NIGHT mode. The wave is not direct. Most sps dont' have polyp extension after the light comes on. after the light goes off, they all come out. Only certain mill have polyps extension, other than that, they are retract after the light comes on. Also have a sea swirl return. (3/4).

I have 4X 4ft T5, two actinics, two daylight and 3X 250 DE. After the actinics comes on, the polpys would start retracting already...so i don't know if it's even the lights.

It seems normal to me. My SPS polyps tend to look slightly more extended during the night, and less during the day. You can't really tell the difference on Acropora Millipora, but on Acropora Acrpora species, I notice the the polyp extension is longer

In the wild, many sps only have their polyps out at night. My polyp extension is def greater at night.

You could have a fish or invert who is harassing your corals. I did (flame angel and emerald crab). Once I got rid of these guys, my polyp extension increased.

I don't really see any polyps extension when the lights are on, but the millepora. After the lights are off for a while, they polyps are full extended. I have seen tanks that have polyps extensions even when the lights are on.....so just thought there would be something that can help.

I do have an angel but i really don't see it picking on the sps. Plus even if he is, i doubted he can constantly pick on 60 sps in my tank to cause them retract all the time when the lights are on.

I think the flow can definetly be one thing that can be the cause, i'll be checking on that. I have two tunze 6101 running at 80% on each side, not sure if that's too much or too little, i'll have to play with that. and they are on pulse function.

It's probably not a problem but i would love to see polyps extension all the time...that would be nice. My stuff does grow, so i wouldn't say it's a problem.

Hell everyone, I thought I would chime in since everyone seems to be experiencing the exact opposite of what I have with the SPS Corals in my last Aquarium setup. Although I never really bothered to look if my SPS Corals Polyps where extended during their lunar period but I did definitely notice and took alot of pride in viewing my SPS Corals Polyp extension dramaticaly extended during the normal photo period and more and more as the lights were on. I was currently utilizing 300 watts of Metal Halide Lighting with 14,000k Bulbs and 480 watts of T5 lighting.

They open at night for respiration and to a much lesser extend, food capture.

Are you sure you don't have redbugs? your observations may point to that.
