Well I think I'm pretty much defeated in my battle against mushrooms. The purple and green ones have pretty much taken over the tank. They just killed my poccillipora and its looking like they are about to go after some more of my sps.

I'm trying to find a way of ridding them completely from my tank. I have tried and failed with:
1) Kalk . I suspect that I irritated them so much that they released toxins which killed 2 tangs in my tank. Also, mushrooms are so hardy that it takes several applications to kill them.
2) Cutting with razor blade. Extremely tedious and I need to get rid of several hundred. It would probably take me 40 hrs to get them all. 1/2 of them aren't able to be reached as well.
3) Putting other aggressive corals near them and hoping that a battle would occur. No luck.

I've searched and searched with no success. Unless anyone has another good idea, I think I'm just going to have to get entirely new rock for the tank. Extreme hassle which I'd like to avoid.

Anyone know of a sps/lps/zoos-safe animal (fish or invert) that likes to eat mushrooms?

Thanks,
Nate

(Yes I know.... "DON'T KILL ANIMALS", but these are a pest and invasive much like aptasia.)

cook the rock. It's a sucky proposition, but it's the only way you'll get rid of them. you could do a rock or two at a time, and just keep them away from the shrooms when you put them back in.

or you could trade rock with someone who wants shrooms in their fish only tank.

A friend had success by cutting off as much as possible and then putting black plastic over the rock (weighed it down with rubble) and left it there til they were officially dead...

Or you can sell the rocks they are on for some money and buy new rocks. I like have some purple ones that spread a little. I can not even get my green one to split. I cut it down the middle and they fuse back together.

I think the best solution is to sell the rocks with srooms on and buy new rock with the money.

Good luck.
