I have a colony of orange crush that has outgrown the rock they are on.
they have reached the edges and are now sticking out off the rock.
can I put another rock next to them, will the colony begin to grow in just one new direction? Right now they are looking for someplace new to go.

What you want to do is cut off the ones that are hanging off the edges and mount them to LR rubble. Place the rubble in the front of the tank where you can get to it easily, I'll be by tomorrow afternoon to pick them up!

Jon just cut them off and put them on the sand they are LPS.

You can leave them alone - the ones that develp skeleton on the sand bed are easier to frag.

I should mention the rock is not on the sandbed, it's leaning against other rocks. should I lay it on the sand bed? sounds like the plan.

J, you need to place it on special sand. And there are only a few reefers that have that sand (me). whenever your ready i'll be over for it to "Hold" for you.

I think I have the same sand you have T, I'll let them grow on the sand and you can visit them

Square plugs are the optimum growing surface for them :biggrin:

Let me inspect them to make sure that they are the real deal. I'll then return the colony without any "hangovers"

Jon, what you need to do is to glue a piece of rubble or a disk to the side of the coral(dont get a glue on the flesh) you can leave it to grow to the sand or in to the water column but it will be slower . make sure that you have a bridge to the new real estate . i mix gel with the sand and add it between the new piece and an edge of the colony

i got the square plugs from sharkys reef and was very weired out by that. it is actually a mosaic tile that they use . it still have some mesh on the bottom
