Brown polyps on SPS...

here is another question, maybe someone here can answer it...

Nick and I were discussing SPS corals that are supposed to have nice colored polyps that have brown polyps... does anyone here have the answer to this....

Do nutrients, nitrates, Phosphates, temp, ph play a roll in what color the polyps are... we are stumped and cant come up with an answer...

It's my understanding that brown polyps are on sucker sps. IE never buy a coral online with "SIck Insane Kiwi Green...." color if you can't see the polyps, cause they're brown!

It's a marketing tool for selling corals online. That's my understanding.

IME Coral polps change color. I usually just blast them with a ton of light to fade the polyps a bit. I'm guessing its a nutrient/lighting thing just like the color of the whole coral.

I dont know much about sps but I have noticed that with heavy lighting and water quality like a constant calcium addition, my sps have colored up faster when they go from MH to T5z.

I used to have a long photo period.

Are you referring to the entire coral? Tony's asking about polyps specifically.

Both. I have experienced discoloration of my sps when put under t5 aften MHs. Both the coral and the polyp usually lose the color but both return it after a longer photo periods.
May be I am wrong and it just seen that way.

Hey Rich we were talking about this because I have my PO4 @.02 trates at 0. My colors are right on point like my hoeksemi which is a INSANE royal blue but the polyps went brown on my aalso my german green w/ blue polyps now has brown polyps and I cant figure out why. Yet my my oregon tort has incase light blue polyps and my blue tots and green slimmer, purple monster, and purple bonsai all have the real colored polyps.

maybe is were u have them placed. try a different location it may like more or less light or flow.

Any way I have 4 bulbs
back-----aquablue plus
back mid aquablue plus
front mid aqua blue plus
Front uri actinic
the fixture was bought from ronen. Its a tek-light

I think thats why my purple digitata has light cream brown polyps too...
