I just got a frag of orange scleronephthya 3 days ago from Seacrop. They are a great resource for mail ordering corals via the internet, great deals and excellent packaging. This species is very difficult to maintain I know. On arrival the polyps were tightly closed and they have remained that way. I mounted it hanging down in my tank as they grow in the wild. Initially I noticed it looked like it was shedding an outer layer of tissue. Next I noticed it starting to deteriorate at the base where it was attached. This morning it had deteriorated all the way through so I put it in a hole in my rock near good circulation. There is a bit left on the mount but most of it broke away.

Any chances it will come back? Any advice on how I might give it its best chances would be GREATLY appreciated.

I also recieved a nice frag of pink stylophora thats polyps are extended and healthy looking but it does have 2 small grey/black/bluish spots on its lower section. It is place high in my tank near my compact flourescs. Do I need to cut them out or should I just let it be and observe it to see if it heals on its own?

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Joe

Hey Joe.. I'm not sure exactly how far along the deterioration is but it sounds like its well along. Would you be able to post a pic? As for the blackish spot I would try to cut it out if you can do so without causing too much damage. If you can move this thread to the General section it may get more views. Hope this helps!
